He took the age-old concept of moving freight on a horse-powered dray wagon and changed the industry by using the newly invented engine-powered truck. At this point the automobile was less than 15 years old and the use of trucks was in its inception. Mr. Hafer was a pioneer in the industry and was successful for more than 30 years. In 1954, Thomas Fitzgibbons bought The Wm. Hafer Drayage Co. from Mr. Hafer and continued to operate and expand the business successfully. Tom had the foresight to become involved in intermodal trucking and saw the company's future in this mode of transportation. From that point in time to the present, Hafer has been a leader in intermodal trucking in the Tri-State area of Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.
