You'll operate machines that vacuum out or use high pressure hoses to break debris up and push it through the sewer lines.
You will also operate equipment with mounted camera systems to survey the underground lines, test flow levels, and keep records. Occasionally, you'll respond to calls of sewer back-ups in homes or businesses and will help identify the cause of the back-up.
If it is the City's portion of the line, you'll help clear the blockage and provide exceptional customer service to help our citizens understand the remediation and claims process with the City.
Occasionally you will enter manholes to clear blockage. Tooele City provides you with appropriate personal protective clothing to protect you from contact with sludge or wastewater.
The smell may be a challenge for some people.
The job is physical in nature and requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Some of the other required qualifications include: - Be at least 18 years old. - Possess and maintain a valid Utah State Driver License, with 12 months of driving experience (not including time for learner's permit), and a driving record acceptable to Tooele City's insurability and risk management standards. - Obtain a CDL medical card within 180 days of assignment, pass the written test for CDL licensing within 180 days of assignment, and possess a Class B CDL within one year of assignment. - Become Utah Certified Level I Wastewater Collections Operator within one year of assignment to position (or next reasonable testing period as specified by the supervisor). - Be able and willing to respond to emergency call-outs within the time periods specified in City or department policies which may limit residency options.
Must be able and willing to service in an on-call rotation that includes evenings, weekends, and holida ys.
