INTERNAL POSTING-Only temporary or permanent NCDOT employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 May Apply This position is in Division 7 Traffic Services Unit.
Supervise the work of multiple Division Traffic Services sign crews to ensure proper installation of traffic signs.
Duties include planning, organizing, and overseeing signing activities across all counties in Division 7.
Meet with the public to investigate and respond to complaints.
Maintain accurate records, including timesheets and job reports.
Provide employee counseling and administer disciplinary actions as needed.
Respond to emergency situations and oversee contracts to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
Employee will be expected to access NCDOT computer programs such as MMS and will be required to enter data into these programs as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Management prefers applicants with the following: + Knowledge of MUTCD Standards and work zone Traffic Control + Experience in supervising both NCDOT work crews and contractor operations + Experience in reading and interpreting manuals to gather information for solving problems + Experience in Advanced Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices + Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used Additional Expectations: The employee must have the ability to supervise personnel and interpret and apply personnel policies, as well as interpret signing plans.
They must demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in roadway signing operations and be capable of maintaining complete records on personnel, equipment, and materials.
Effective communication with the general public and other governmental agency personnel is essential.
Proficiency in computers and software is required.
Physical activities include standing, walking, talking, and hearing.
The employee must have close visual acuity to perform the tasks required by this position.
The role involves exposure to extreme hot and cold outdoor conditions, high volumes of traffic, and heavy construction equipment.
This position is subject to emergency callback and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other circumstances.
The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date.
Either possession of a current Class A Commercial Driver’s License with N endorsement on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.
Pre-employment drug testing is required.
As a condition of employment, release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
