Summary This position will be at Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS), Tuskegee Campus.
The incumbent will provide administrative assistance to support the Transportation Program by inputting information daily into the Comprehensive Automobile Reporting System (CARS) which is a detailed database set up by the VA to track the cost of government vehicles, scheduling and tracking of vehicles that need maintenance and gathering information daily to input mileage into the GSA Fleet database.
Responsibilities Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Make arrangements for vehicle use Verify incoming invoices for payment Call vendors to discuss discrepancies Prepare accident reports based on information received from the customer Collection, compilation, and/or tracking of data and statistical information Assists in the planning, review, and reporting of data gathered daily for the statistical results of the computerized database, Comprehensive Automobile Reporting System (CARS).
Responsible for entering any new vehicle acquisitions, whether donated, purchased or leased into the CARS database.
Scheduling and dispatching drivers and vehicles for patient transportation Scheduling and dispatching vehicles for other official business purposes Dispatching buses and other vehicles and operators for patient recreation Scheduling return and pick up of General Service Administration (GSA) vehicles at the Fleet Management Center as required Scheduling GSA vehicles to vendors' shops for installation of special equipment.
Delivering and picking up buses and other vehicles from repair shops.
Some of these vehicles require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement to drive.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: applying transportation regulations and practices to perform a wide variety of administrative support; coordinating travel arrangements; maintaining records, utilizing databases, reconciling records and generating reports; investigating/resolving issues and taking corrective actions; and communicating effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience.
To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.

OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level.
You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond post-high school education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level.
One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary.
Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work.
However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc.
No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.
This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
