Position Summary
This Employer is searching for an HVAC Mechanic.
Duties
• Troubleshoots and repairs all components of the air conditioning systems on air-conditioned buses and non-revenue vehicles
• Troubleshoots and repairs all components of vehicle heating systems
• Performs preventative maintenance, scheduled services, and adjustments to all components related to heating and air conditioning systems
• Completes all required paperwork
• Trains and gives technical direction to grade 4 and grade 5 mechanics
• Performs other duties of a similar nature as required
Minimum Requirements
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Two (2) years of experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing vehicle heating, A/C, and electrical systems
• Knowledge of proper soldering and brazing techniques
• Ability to obtain AC Certification within forty-five (45) days of appointment
• EPA-approved certification as prescribed in the Clean Air Act of 1990
• Good driving record with no more than four (4) points in the past three years
• Valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements, or a temporary CDL with the same endorsements
Additional Information
• Duties may be required at any time of day or night, any day of the week
• This is a bargaining unit position
Working Conditions
• Environmental: Work in a District Garage with diesel fumes, airborne dust/dirt, and temperature extremes
• Physical: Work on vehicles including coaches, railcars, trucks, and automobiles; climb ladders; service rooftop antennas; install/remove equipment over 75 lbs; drive vehicles; load/unload equipment; work any shift schedule
• Mental: Proficiency in computer skills for work orders and programming; detail work on small circuit boards; read and understand complex manuals and schematics; effective written and verbal communication; use of hand tools and electrical test equipment
Examination Information
• Internal Candidates: Written (must pass) -- 42.5%, Interview -- 42.5%, Eligibility Certification -- 15%
• External Candidates: Written (must pass) -- 50%, Interview -- 50%
• Minimum composite score of 70% required to establish eligibility
• Candidates meeting minimum requirements and selected to continue will receive email notification
• Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria to receive the 15% weighting
• Internal candidates must submit a properly completed Eligibility Certification for Internal Selection Process form (Revised 4/5/2013) with their application
• Applicants who do not meet the minimum composite score must wait 180 days to reapply
