you! The City of Augusta is currently
seeking a Fire & Police Mechanic to perform routine and specialized
maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on fire
trucks, ambulances, and police vehicles.
This critical role ensures that
our emergency fleet remains in top condition
and ready to respond at a moments notice.
The Augusta Fire Department
provides full-time firefighting, Paramedic-
level Emergency Medical Services, and public education to Maine's
capital and surrounding communities.
The
Augusta Police Department provides law enforcement, community policing,
public safety dispatch, and a variety of
other public safety and community outreach services to the City.
The
Fire & Police Mechanic works under the
supervision of the Fire Chief and work is primarily performed at the
Public Works Garage.

Requirements Two-year (2) vocational school certificate or other
specialized mechanic training and a minimum of
three (3) years experience as an automotive/equipment mechanic in heavy
equipment.
Any equivalent combination
of education, training or experience that provides the required
knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Valid State of Maine Motor Vehicle Inspection License (A&D).
Valid Class
B Commercial Drivers License (CDL-B), or
a Class C drivers license with the ability to obtain a CDL-B within 12
months of hire, required (will train the right
candidate).
Compensation & Benefits This position falls within Non-Union Salary
Range 14, which is currently $25.39 to
$34.60 per hour.
Actual rate of pay will depend on experience,
qualifications, and available budget.
Employees are
eligible for annual cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) as well as
potential merit-based step increases.
The City of
Augusta offers a choice of three excellent health insurance plans.
Depending on the plan selected, a Health
Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) may be available to help offset
deductible costs.
Employees who are covered
under a qualifying alternative health plan may be eligible for a medical
buyout, currently ranging from $2,400 to
$3,600 annually, based on coverage eligibility.
Retirement benefits
include enrollment in the MainePERS Plan AC, a
defined benefit pension plan.
Please note that employees in this plan do
not contribute to Social Security.
Employees also earn paid vacation and sick leave, receive 13 paid
holidays per year, and have access to Flexible
Spending Accounts (FSAs) for medical and dependent care expenses.
Additional benefits include life insurance,
short-term disability coverage, an optional 457(b) deferred compensation
plan, tuition reimbursement, a nd more.
