GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the close supervision of the Foreman, the incumbent accurately performs semi-skilled tasks and operates a variety of equipment and trucks to maintain and build roads and bridges.
In addition to equipment operation, incumbents are required to perform other functions and manual labor duties related to construction, maintenance and repair.
Duties require some responsibility and independent judgment.
## ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operate truck(s) / vehicle(s) (e.g.
single and tandem axle truck), loader, backhoe and skid steer, (Class A license is required to haul skid steer).
Load, haul and unload trucks used to transport various equipment, materials and supplies.
Operate construction, maintenance and power equipment, and perform required manual labor for construction, repair, and maintenance projects.
Perform required manual labor in construction and maintenance projects.
Prepare equipment for paint striping of roads and curbs.
Place barricades for preparation of work zone.
Place and level concrete for road repair.
Prepare and install guardrails.
Prepare equipment and areas for snow removal including, but not limited to installing snow plow blade, inspecting and operating equipment, and installing snow fencing to prevent drifting.
Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and may make minor repairs and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, County Officials, and the general public.
Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Report to assigned worksite with regular, predictable, and consistent attendance.
Peripheral Duties
Control traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.
Perform other duties as directed and assigned.
## MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Two (2) years of bona fide work experience in highway construction, and maintenance preferred.
Special RequirementsMust have, by time of appointment, and maintain throughout employment, a valid Drivers License and Class B CDL license, as well as meet eligibility requirements of acceptable driver standards as defined by the County.
Position will be subject to DOT Random testing.
This is a safety sensitive position.

Some knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles
Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations
Working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in street and utility maintenance work

Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions
Ability to drive and operate a variety of equipment under varying conditions
Ability to work from construction specifications or blueprints
Ability to classify soils and perform as a Department of Labor and Industries competent person on excavation sites
Ability to operate tools, motorized vehicles and equipment, and devices necessary for the successful completion of assigned job duties.
May operate road grader for routine road maintenance, track loaders, excavators, or boom trucks for training purposes or during emergency situations (IF QUALIFIED).
FOR TRAINING PURPOSES: A day constitutes (4) four hours or more.
