GENERAL SCOPE
Under the supervision of the Child Development Services Manager/ Coach, and in concert with HRDC Policies and Procedures, Health and Human Services, Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles and Maryland Department of Human Resources regulations, is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of program facilities; safely transports children; uses bus only for authorized agency business; reports all mechanical problems or damage to agency vehicles; and maintains a positive, professional attitude at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or its equivalent
- Experience in industrial or commercial cleaning preferred.
- Experience in general maintenance such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, etc., and use of applicable tools preferred.
- Valid drivers license and ability to obtain required Commercial Drivers License with Passenger Endorsement within agencys designated timeframe.
Skills/Abilities
1.
Must possess physical abilities necessary to perform all duties as outlined.
2.
Experience in industrial or commercial cleaning preferred.
3.
Experience in general maintenance such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, etc., and use of applicable tools preferred.
4.
Possess basic oral and written and communication skills, including ability to read and write legibly.
5.
Ability to relate well to low-income children and families.
6.
Valid drivers license and ability to obtain required Commercial Drivers License with Passenger Endorsement within
agencys designated timeframe.
7.
Ability to drive in inclement weather.

Requirements
1.
Must be 18 years of age.
2.
Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check within timeframe established by the program.
3.
Must be flexible and eager to accept new challenges, and have a positive attitude and outgoing personality.
4.
Must, at a minimum, dress in a manner that is casual, but tailored and conservative.
On days when meeting with outside organizations, must dress in a manner that reflects the dress norms in a professional office.
Must be neat and well groomed at all times.
5.
Must have access to transportation on a daily basis and the flexibility to travel independently.
6.
Must pass a physical examination by an approved physician prior to employment and once a year during each year of employment.
7.
Must possess Department of Motor Vehicle driving record that meets the Clean Driving Record as defined by HRDCs Policies and Procedures.
Driving
:
Provides transportation for the children to and from school, field trips, and during emergencies.
Ensures childrens safety at all times while they are being transported, including loading and unloading and supervising childrens conduct on the bus.
Conducts daily pre-trip inspection; keeps fuel at recommended levels; completes HRDCs Weekly Vehicle Checklist and HRDCs Drivers Daily Log/Monthly Report.
- Assures that vehicles have necessary information on board at all times, including emergency medical information on all children, up-to-date list of enrolled children, the order in which children are picked up, and daily mileage sheets.
- Obeys all traffic laws, including use of flasher when loading/unloading children; obeys passenger limits of vehicles.
- Determines, during inclement weather, if road conditions are safe and informs Operations Manager of determination.
- Keeps vehicle neat and clean both inside and out.
- Returns bus to designated location and assures that it is locked securely.
- Reports, according to procedures, all accidents to the Operations Manager.
- Uses bus only for authorized Department business.
- Attends meetings and in-service trainings as required by supervisor.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Provides training to new drivers including pre-trip inspection, vehicle com onent knowledge, observing driver during on-road practice, and taking new drivers for CDL bus examination.
- Performs general repairs to all buses.
Maintenance:
- Cleans and maintains entire center(s) assigned.
- Performs any building maintenance required to comply with funding source, Child Care Administration guidelines or work orders.
- Loads and/or unloads supplies for delivery at Center(s).
- Cuts grass, trims hedges, weeds yard, collects trash on the premises, and removes snow from the steps and sidewalks as needed.
- Picks up janitorial and/or maintenance supplies as needed.
- Cooperates with volunteers and temporary workers who are assigned maintenance duties.
- Maintains a professional attitude, keeping all personal and medical information about children, families, and staff absolutely confidential.
- Delivers and assembles supplies/products for teaching staff.
- Determines needed building repairs.
Contacts Operations Manager for contractor if unable to make repair.
