Role Overview:
This position provides field survey support for the Design and Real Estate Sections.
This position also assists with snow and ice removal operations when needed.
Salary:
This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $24.26 an hour.
Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
CDL Positions:
Candidates with a current CDL will earn an additional $1 per hour for this position.
Candidates without a CDL will be given 90 days to obtain their CDL, with training provided by INDOT, and will then earn an additional $1 per hour upon successfully obtaining their CDL.

This position is located in INDOT’s Crawfordsville area.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
+ Calibrates, operates, and evaluates data from multiple specialize test systems at Materials and Tests
+ Obtain CDL license to assist in District snow removal operations.
+ Follows all related safety standards and conducts/participates in safety briefing.
+ Performs research, preliminary data analysis and collects quality data on multiple specialized testing systems.
+ Performs and maintains calibration of test systems to prescribed federal and state specifications.
+ Performs maintenance, repair and system upgrades to laboratory test systems.
+ Assists Laboratory Manager in conducting multiple laboratory tests and data analysis.
+ Assist with Facilities and B&G repair and maintenance.
+ Sets up and operates equipment to obtain survey data and performs calculations for determination of precise measurements
+ Operates higher-level survey equipment including an automatic level, total station, electronic data collectors, robotic total stations, and GPS equipment in order to obtain survey data and calculate precise measurements, and traversing and leveling operations (e.g., angles, distance, elevations)
+ Operates a state survey van to transport equipment (e.g., automatic level, GPS equipment, total station, magnetic locators, and robotic total stations) to job site
+ Assists the crew leader in contacting property owners to obtain permission to work on private property, and in researching land titles and deeds for the location of control points
+ Formulates mathematical calculations for curves, bench circuits and property or traverse lines
+ Acts as a crew chief of survey crew in absence of the crew leader
+ Assists in maintenance of survey instruments and vehicles
+ Plots field data using CADD (Computer Aided Design Drawings) software for the preparation of survey drawings
+ Receives training in higher-level computations involving programmable calculators and personal computers

What You'll Need for Success:
The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either
+ High school graduate or equivalent.
+ Must possess a valid driver license.
+ Must have valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) or ability to obtain for snow removal.
Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.
+ Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
+ Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
+ Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time.
+ Must be able to endure exposure to inclement weather.
+ Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly.
+ Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
+ The ability to read, interpret and follow technical documents such as AASHTO, ASTM, INDOT specifications, and Indiana Test Methods (ITM);
+ Basic knowledge of and the ability to operate and maintain material testing equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
